Project: Blu Magazine
Role: Graphic Design, Illustration
Tools: Pencil & Paper, Procreate, Photoshop, Affinity Designer
For the first month's issue of Blu, the theme was the blues in art and music.
With this issue I saw an opportunity to incorporate my traditional skillset as an artist into the design of the cover. Since the main article of this issue was about Picasso's Blue period, I illustrated the cover as a direct reflection of his iconic painting "The Old Guitarist."
Cover illustration painted digitally with Procreate on an iPad Pro. The brushstrokes were left intentionally loose and expressive for a "painterly" feel.
For this spread, the emphasis is placed on Picasso's blue period paintings. I decided to do a photo collage of his work that stretches across both pages in combination with a bold typeface to draw the reader's attention to the story.
Here I apply a three column text layout, commonly seen in editorial interview formats. Explore the other issues below to see more!
